It’s the kind of shoddy reporting and follow-up featured in the example linked via this blog that supports the cause to defund this propaganda machine that is NPR. If the best that this so-called “Facebook generation” can offer as their commitment to reading is pop culture-driven fantasy novels , then that generation can’t yet qualify as fully literate in a traditional sense. As it is, NPR doesn’t have a problem with that. Undoubtedly if it had been reported that more and more young people are reading Ayn Rand’s novels, for example, the elitist culture vultures at NPR would be squawking in protest.
